Fever pay price for poor away performance
On the back of 6 points from their last 2 games, Fever went into this encounter full of optimism, but they were soon to be well and truly grounded after falling to a HBC side who bullied them into submission.
Fever stormed into the lead as Emile De Vos provided a clinical pass for the on rushing Pallos Levente who provided the finishing touch to a fluent team attack, involving Auger, Fannin, Garthwaite and Gardereau. The 7 or so minutes prior to Levente’s breakthrough proved to be Fever’s solitary period of dominance as HBC came into their own, bullying and harassing Fever into submission. This began with an immediate reply and a further 2 goals over the course of the proceeding 60 minutes, in which Fever did nothing of note. Poor marking and positioning were complimented with an inability to pass or control the ball with a dash of lethargy. A recipe for failure. Big guns failed to fire, but the ever dependable central defensive partnership of Dan Lappin and Dan Argueta did a fine job in keeping the score down, as did Andrew Ritchie who followed up his clean sheet with another blameless assured display. There were a couple of positives in addition to the aforementioned goal, as the game marked Matt Silva’s return to the team and a first goal for Carl Garthwaite, which came too late to alter events.
After HBC conceded a foul around the centre circle, Argueta played a quick ball to Sebastian Auger, who whipped a ball into the box, which came off the head of a HBC defender and into the path of Garthwaite who volleyed home. But it was too little too late.
Yun Tae Ho, back in the fold after being unavailable for the last few games, put in a typically whole hearted display and was one of only a few people who vaguely resembled football players and could take any credit at all from their performance.
Yet again the ever-consistent Dan Argueta was edged out of the Man of the Match award, which was presented to his defensive partner Dan Lappin.
This game signaled the end of the first round of games, and left Fever languishing in mid table mediocrity, not where anyone wants to be. It’s back to a dirt pitch next week for Fever who will play INTS FC, and will be looking to repeat their opening day victory over their tricky opponents.
